Why consider a solid wood floor?
Solid wood flooring is exactly what it says on the tin – solid wood through and through. The wood is taken directly from the tree trunk, then cut and shaped down to size, which is typically between 18 and 25cm. Solid wood flooring is available in various species of wood. We offer a number of different species, including oak, walnut, maple, bamboo and more. Check out our selection of solid wood flooring here and request a free sample of the ones you like.
As well as varying species of wood, plank sizes vary, as do the choices of finish. The choice of finish depends on you. For instance would you prefer a shiny finish or a more natural look for your home? If you would be tempted by a shiny aesthetic, a lacquer finish might suit you best. This is a coating that effectively sits on top of the wood. However one drawback of a lacquer finish is that it can get worn down when it is exposed to high traffic. An oil finish on the other hand, offers a more natural look as the oil sinks into the wood – oil will keep your wood floor in good condition. Alternatively, you can purchase your solid wood flooring unfinished, allowing yourself the creative license to colour and finish it however you wish.
Solid hardwood flooring has proven a popular choice for people choosing new floors, due to a number of factors. Here are just a couple of the reasons why:
Firstly, from a practical point of view, solid wood floors are extremely durable, especially when you compare it to carpet. Carpets require a higher level of maintenance, such as frequent repairs, cleaning and eventually replacing. In comparison, solid wood floors can last a lifetime without needing to be replaced. Carpets also tend to collect more dust and allergens than a solid wood alternative.
Secondly, from an aesthetic point of view, solid wood looks fantastic. Have we not all marveled at an elegant wooden floor in somebody else’s home? Wood is a beautiful product of nature and it is only natural to want to attempt to recreate this aesthetic in our homes. This can be achieved through solid wood flooring.
Solid wood flooring is durable, low maintenance, versatile and can create an extremely nice look for your home. So what are you waiting for? Have a browse of our extensive selection of solid wood floors, and be sure to request a free sample of the ones that take your fancy.
